Most yacht stewardess jobs require a valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate as a minimum — this is the industry standard and non-negotiable for working on commercial yachts. An ENG1 medical certificate is also required. Beyond the basics, qualifications like a Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) certificate, a food hygiene certificate, or a recognised interior training course (such as those offered by GUEST or Luxury Hospitality) can make your application stand out significantly.

What qualifications do I need to work as a yacht stewardess?
Do I need previous yachting experience to apply for yacht stew jobs?
Not always. Many entry-level yacht stewardess jobs are open to candidates with a strong hospitality background — think hotel, events, or fine dining experience. What matters most is attitude, attention to detail, and the willingness to adapt to life at sea. If you’re new to yachting, being flexible on vessel size and location will open up more opportunities.
What does a typical yacht steward or stewardess role involve?
Day-to-day responsibilities vary depending on the yacht and its programme, but most stew jobs cover guest service, housekeeping, laundry, and provisioning. On charter yachts, the pace is fast and the service standards are high. On private vessels, the role can be more routine but equally demanding. Some yacht stewardess jobs also require specialist skills such as massage therapy, floristry, or hairdressing.
How much can I earn in a yacht stewardess job?
Salaries depend on your experience, the size of the yacht, and whether it’s private or charter. If you want to find out more about how much stew jobs typically earn, check out our Yacht Crew Salary Guide.
What’s the difference between private and charter yacht stew jobs?
On a private yacht, you’ll be working for one set of owners with a more consistent routine and often a close-knit crew. Charter yachts host back-to-back guests throughout the season, which means higher energy, more varied service, and the potential for significant tips. Both have their appeal — it really comes down to the lifestyle and pace that suits you best.
How do I find yacht stewardess jobs through a recruitment agency?
Working with a specialist superyacht recruitment agency like us means your CV lands directly with clients who are actively hiring — rather than disappearing into a generic job board. We take the time to understand your background, your preferences, and the kind of yacht environment where you’ll thrive. Register with us, keep your STCW and ENG1 up to date, and we’ll be in touch as soon as a suitable role comes in.
Why work with a yacht crew recruitment agency?
Working with an experienced superyacht recruitment agency gives you access to exclusive yacht crew jobs, industry insight, and personalised support throughout your job search. At Bespoke Crew, we take the time to understand your goals and match you with roles that offer long-term career progression — not just your next job.
